I'm stuck underground in Minecraft! Help?

I was digging out around my base when I fell right into a down-to-bedrock shaft I dug a while back. I died, then went back to the place to get my items using a bucket of water at the top as a one way elevator. Unfortunately I took no pickaxe with me, so I can't just dig some stairs and escape. I guess I'm willing to use a hack to teleport up, or some command to return to spawn while keeping your items. I'm playing in Beta, and I saw some command like "respawn-loss0" but it must not work on Beta or I don't know how to do enter it. Basically I need any way of getting above ground and keeping my items.
