Thinking of buying a swedish mauser?

Saving up for a new mil-surp rifle and I'm dead set on a M96 Swedish Mauser. I've heard the 6.5x55 round is very accurate, but I'm curious as to how accurate the ones manufactured in 1898-1900 are compared to those in the mid to late 30's with WWII looming. Was production rushed with the onset of the war? I know condition and cleanliness are a major deciding factor, but overall what have your experiences been with these rifles? Unfortunately, I've heard that tons of 'em have been "tuned up" by our pal Bubba. Would 400-800 be a good price estimate on one in original military configuration? Thanks guys/girls.
